Vernon L. Spencer, 76, of Lawton, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his home in Lawton, Oklahoma. He was born on December 7, 1937 in Faxon, Oklahoma to Marion Frank and Clara D. (Puffer) Spencer.

He grew up in Lawton where he attended Lawton Public Schools. Vernon was a life long resident of Lawton where he worked for Lawton Public Schools as Head Custodian in the Maintenance Department. He retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He married Pearlene Campbell on September 19, 1984 in Claude, Texas, and they renewed their vows on February 7, 2006. Vernon was a lifelong member of the Oklahoma Education Association and served as President for eight years. He was a Master Mason, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and a Past Patron of Eastern Star.

Anyone who knew Vernon L. Spencer, knew he was devoted to his family, friends and, fishing. He was always there to help wherever he was needed. He loved to joke, make people laugh, and loved his Masonic family.

He is survived by his wife, of the home, Pearlene; children, Richie Lee Spencer and his wife, Julie, of Marlow, Oklahoma, Ruth Ann Martin and her husband, Danny, of Henrietta, Oklahoma, Dana Sue Johnson and her husband, Reggie, of Lawton, Oklahoma, Lana Jameson and her husband, Robert, of Cyril, Oklahoma, Thomas E. Campbell, of Lawton, Oklahoma and Derek Lee Spencer, of Lawton, Oklahoma; sister, Lorene Mabry, of Lawton, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, Beth, Steven, Timothy, Melinda, Danel, Alicia, Benjamin, David, Todd, Shania, Emerald Dawn, Joshua, Mackenzie Nicole; and 20 great grandchildren.

Mr. Spencer was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Gladys Jeanette Spencer, brothers, Daryl Spencer and Mancy Spencer.

Funeral service for will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2014 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Thoma, of 1st Assembly of God Elgin, officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Garden.
