As a lifelong member of the Dortches community, he was born on October 19, 1927, at Park View Hospital in Rocky Mount, to James Arthur Proctor and Viola Rimmer Proctor. He was married to his loving wife, Jean Edwards Proctor, for forty one years, until she preceded him in death, in 1995. Kenneth was the proud father of two sons and two daughters, and six loving grandchildren. He also enjoyed many wonderful memories with his nineteen nieces and nephews. His children surviving are James Kenneth Proctor of Nashville, Bruce Edward Proctor of Santa Ana, California, Verna Gail Proctor of Dortches, and Penny Proctor Gloeckner of Hamilton, Ohio.
He leaves behind his four siblings and their spouses, whom he loved dearly. He and James Carlton Proctor, Jean Proctor Harris, Robert Glenn Proctor, and George Lindsey Proctor, all attended Red Oak High School, and continued to share fond memories from this time until his passing. Kenneth graduated from Red Oak in 1945, upon which time he was inducted into The Army of the United States. There, he proudly served for a year in Japan, as part of the occupying Niigata Military Government Team. One of his favorite times of the year was attending the Red Oak Alumni Banquet, and this was the first year he had missed, for what is believed to be the only time since returning home from his military service.
He is also survived by Sylvia Edwards Jenkins, and her husband Bobby, and Gloria Yvonne Edwards, who were his sisters and brother, by marriage. There love and friendship has meant more than most will ever experience.
Kenneth proudly worked with his father, and then his brother, on the family farm until he left to work at Phillips Fibers in Rocky Mount, from where he retired. From there, bored from idle hands, he took a job with Daughtridge Sales, where he continued to work for a number of years. After his wife's passing, many people would have found Kenneth at a Single's Club dancing his nights away. He would often call late at night, on his way home from over town, or Kinston, Goldsboro, Greenville, or Roanoke Rapids, telling of the joy he had experienced with his many friends, fond of doing one of the things he most loved.
Visitation with the family will be at Wheeler-Woodlief Funeral Home, at 1130 Winston Avenue, in Rocky Mount, from 7 until 8:30 on Wednesday night. Graveside services will be conducted by the Right Reverend Doctor Edward Conner, at Rocky Mount Memorial Park at 11 AM, Thursday morning in Dortches.
