BLUEFIELD, Va. — Steve Jackson, 86 of Bluefield, VA passed away at his home on May 18, 2014, with his loving wife and family by his side. He was born in Bluefield, WV, the only son of the late Lewis and Rachel Jackson. Steve worked at U.S. Steel in Gary, WV for 37 years as a loading point operator. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Steve had a life-long love of music. He played trumpet in the Graham High School Band, and with the WV Drum and Bugle Corps. He was a faithful member of the Bluefield VA Church of God for over 60 years and served the church in several capacities, including clerk, member of the Pastor's Council and director of the sanctuary choir for 52 years.

Steve and his wife had an avid interest in antiques. They owned an antique shop for a number of years and were featured vendors at several renowned annual antiquing events.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Jackson and Rachel Jackson Graham.

His survivors include his wife of 65 years, Ruth Jackson of Bluefield, VA; two sons, Timothy Jackson and his wife Nancy of Morehead City, NC and Randy Jackson and his wife Kerri of Bluefield, VA; daughter, Brenda Kretzer and husband Ron of Bluefield, VA; four grandchildren, Brandi Stanley and husband David of Denham Springs, LA, Ronald Kretzer II of Sacramento, CA, Chase Kretzer of Bluefield, Va. and Madison Jackson of Bluefield, Va., and one great-grandchild, Alyssa Stanley of Denham Springs, LA.

A service to celebrate Mr. Jackson's life will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Bluefield VA Church of God with the Rev. Tony Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at Grandview Memory Gardens with family and friends serving as pallbearers. Military Graveside will be conducted by the VFW Post 9696 and Pocahontas American Legion Post #14.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday at the church from 11:30 a.m. till hour of service.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Bluefield Va. Church of God Building Fund at 104 Highland Avenue, Bluefield, Va. in lieu of flowers.
