MARSHALL JEWELL MANSPEAKER, 73, of Maugansville Road, died at the Washington County Hospital on Wednesday following an illness of three months. He was born at Bedford, Pa. son of Wesley Freeman and Martha Jane (West) Manspeaker.

He spent his early life in Martinsburg, moving to Hagerstown in 1905. He had worked as a blacksmith for the Western Mary and Railway for 42 years, retiring in 1953. He was a member of the Washington Square Methodist Church, Men's Bible Class and Benhur Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche (Runkles) Manspeaker; daughters, Mrs. Ray Greene, Mrs. Ethel Colvin, Mrs. Robert Gish, Mrs. Glenn Frush, Mrs. Kenneth Shank, all of Hagerstown; Mrs. Daniel King, Funkstown; Miss Virginia Manspeaker, at home; sons, William, Richard, Walter and Robert, all of Hagerstown; Howard, and Henry, both of Funkstown; Raymond, Hagerstown.; Elmer, Greencastle; Herbert, Smithsburg; 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond, Martinsburg; Ernest, Martinsburg; William, York, Pa.; Cyrus, Chambersburg. Sixteen of his children were living.

Services were held at the Washington Square Methodist Church; interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery; arrangements were handled by the A.K. Coffman Funeral Home.
