Louis "Cal" Heitman, 46, of 1551 3rd St., Rock Island, died at 10:10 last night in the Iowa City Veterans Hospital. He had been in failing health.
He was born January 20, 1911 in Chicago the son of Louis and May Heitmann. He lived in Rock Island the remainder of his life, and graduated from Rock Island High School in 1933. He also attended the Rock Island Business College.
Heitman married Florence Potter on Nov. 3, 1934, in Rock Island. He was a well known musician and once led his own band, the "Ambassadors". He also played football and was a member of the first team to play in the present Rock Island Public Schools Stadium.
A veteran of World War II, Heitman was the honor man in his class at the Yeoman School in San Diego, Calif.
Surviving are the widow; three sons, Lawrence and Michael of Moline, and Gary, who is in the service but home on leave at the present time; and his parents.
Services are pending at the Hodgson Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Louis "Cal" Heitman, 46, of 1551 3rd St., Rock Island, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 1 at the Hodgson Funeral Home with the Rev. Fred J. Rolf, pastor emeritus of the Rock Island Church of Peace, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Heitman, a former band leader, died Wednesday night in the Iowa City Veterans Hospital.
