Mickie Denise Smith (1936 - 2014)

SHERMAN - Mickie Denise Smith, age 78, of Sherman, Texas, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Denison Nursing and Rehab in Denison, Texas. She was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death.

She was born March 4, 1936, to Dennis and Wilma Dodds Newberry in Clayton, N.M. She was married to George Smith on May 29, 1954, who passed from this life in July of 1971. She received a BA degree and did clerical work in the computer industry.

Mickie was a lifelong member of Glad Tidings Church in Sherman, Texas. After the death of her husband, she was left with five small children to rear and nourish. She loved to cook and bake and always had cookies for the children. She also loved to care for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her five children, daughters, Brenda Skipworth & husband Weldon of Sherman, Georgia Clark & husband Terry of Whitewright, Texas, Wendy Croft of Paris, Texas, sons, Michael Smith & wife Carmen of Plano, Texas, Darrin Smith & wife Chrystal of Quitman, Texas, numerous great and great-grandchildren, brothers, Donald Newberry & Sue of Gallop, N.M., Jack Newberry & Sue of Farmington, N.M., other nieces, nephews, many other relatives and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death was her husband, George W. Smith, brother, Averil Newberry, great-grandson, Christian Hanko.

The family will have a private graveside service in San Antonio, Texas. She will be buried with her husband at Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio.

The family wishes to give a "special thanks" to Denison Manor and Guardian Hospice for the loving care given their mother.
