Edwin Kyle Hughes, 89, of Crossville, passed away May 15, 2014, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services were held May 19 at Memorial Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Sand Springs Cemetery in Monterey, TN. The Rev. Randy Tate, Pastor Bill Roberts and Pastor Scott Monday officiated.

He was born Dec. 30, 1924, in Maynardville, TN, the son of James and Ella Turner Hughes. He retired after many years as a sheet metal worker and was also a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, having served during WWII. Mr. Hughes was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and American Legion Post #238.

He is survived by his son, Jim and Vickie Hughes of Galena, OH; daughter, Pat and Randy Tate of Huntington, WV; brother, Noah Hughes of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Lori and Scott Wagner of Sunbury, OH, Amy Hughes of Centerbury, OH, Chris Tate of Knoxville, TN, Angie and Marc Snyder of Sunbury, OH and David and Amanda Tate of Flatwoods, KY; and great-grandchildren, Avery and Brayden Wagner of Sunbury, OH, Morgan Tate of Rockmart, GA, Sydnee and Brooklyn Snyder of Sunbury, OH, and Jonathan and Sophie Tate of Flatwoods, KY.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arvella Bradam Hughes, and brothers, James Duwarde and Charles Roy Hughes.

The family extends a very special thanks to the staff at Wharton Nursing Home, who provided loving and compassionate care during his time there.

Serving as pallbearers were Scott Wagner, Lori Wagner, Angie Snyder, Marc Snyder, Chris Tate, David Tate and Amy Hughes.
