A Family traceable back to the 12th century. Age 11 he was a boy page to Frederick William III the German ruler. Age 18 he entered the German Army. Married 1829. Wife died young in Germany. He became a leader of Old Lutherans in Magdeburg pre-1839. Left Magdeburg, Saxony, Germany for America 1839 - age 42. with daughter Julia age 3.
