Charles served as a Private First Class, Company E, 317th Infantry, 80th Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on August 12, 1943 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the manufacture of boots and shoes and also as Separated, without dependents.

Charles was "Killed In Action" near Saint-Avold, France during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

It is unknown at this time why his headstone shows "Maine". Possibly that is where his spouse was from.
