Our father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Gordon Elbert Withers, 92, died peacefully Wednesday May 14, 2014, surrounded by his family. Gordon was born September 5, 1921 to Richard Thomas and Annie Clara Thompson Withers, in Riverton Utah. He was the second oldest of 10 siblings: Calvin, Daryl, Lamar, Dorothy, Dona,
Melvin, Ralph, Darlene and Iretta.

Gordon fell in love and married Verda Pulley Withers, May 29, 1943 in Leesville Louisiana, while he was serving in the U.S. Army. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They had 5 children and were happily married for 68 years.

Gordon, a proud World War II Army Veteran, served his country with honor in the European theater. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was awarded several medals which included 2 purple hearts and a bronze star.

Dad was a hard worker and provided well for his family. He was known for his beautiful crafting of cedar wood clocks and tables. He loved traveling, hunting, fishing, boating,
camping and living life to the fullest with his family. Gordon and Verda enjoyed 23 years as snowbirds in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and it became known as their "Best of Times."

Gordon is survived by his children: Jearl (Teresa), Jeanette (Dennis) Scott, Danny (Barbara), DeAnn (Dennis) Nielsen, 9 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. He is
preceded in death by his parents, wife Verda (July 23, 2011), his infant son Jerry, granddaughter Stacey Sandstrom Gordon, and 5 siblings. He will be greatly missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at the Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State, Midvale, Utah. Friends may call Monday, 6-7:30 P.M. at Goff Mortuary,
