James Ellis Bagwell Sr., 78, of Piedmont, husband of Nancy Wilson Bagwell, died Tuesday, March 2, 2004.

Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late W.F. Sr. and Emma Richardson Bagwell, of Pelzer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was an active member of White Plains Baptist Church, where he was formerly a Sunday school teacher, deacon and trustee. He was employed by American Bakeries and was retired from the South Carolina Forestry Commission.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, he is survived by daughters and their husbands, Carol and Bill Green, of Pelzer, and Cynthia and Ted Bunton, of Piedmont; a son and his wife, Jimmy and Susan G. Bagwell, of Piedmont; grandchildren, David and Amy Bagwell, Jonathan and Sherry Green, all of Piedmont, Ben Bunton, of Commerce, Ga., Brian Bunton, of Durham, N.C., David Green, of Anderson, Suzanne B. and Eric Gerisch, of Piedmont, and Rachel Green, of Pelzer; great-grandchildren, Tyler, Evan and AnnaBeth Bagwell and Wyatt Bradberry, all of Piedmont; brothers and sisters-in-law, Wade and Bobbie Bagwell, of Greenville, Lonnie and Jean Bagwell, of Anderson, and Hoyt and Carolyn Bagwell, of Pelzer; a sister, Gladys Spearman, of Piedmont; a sister and brother-in-law, Sybil and Frank Williams, of Anderson; a brother-in-law, O.T. Harrison, of Williamston; and sisters-in-law, Kathryn Bagwell and Edna Bagwell, both of Pelzer.

He was predeceased by brothers, William F. Bagwell Jr. and Carl Bagwell; and sisters, Edith B. Harrison and Ruth Bagwell.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 4, 2004, at White Plains Baptist Church, with the Rev. Mark Spearman officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, prior to the service, at the church. Entombment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to White Plains Baptist Church "Catch the Vision" Fund, 1435 Easley Highway, Pelzer, SC 29669; or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 10794, Greenville, SC 29603.

Gray Mortuary, Pelzer, is in charge of arrangements.
