Dwight Latham dies at 80

GARFIELD – Dwight L "Cuffy" Latham, 80, who retired as a mechanic at Lewiston 10 years ago, was found dead at his Garfield home Monday afternoon by a neighbor.

He apparently died of a heart attack. Latham had had a heart condition for several years.

He was employed at Lewiston from 1944 until 1960; working for several automotive firms and individuals as a mechanic. He moved to Garfield after his retirement.

Latham was born at Reardan, Wash., on Jun 24, 1895, to Abraham W. and Hattie Rose Denney Latham. He moved at an early age to Melrose.

He served with the Canadian armed forces during World War I. He returned to Melrose after the war, staying until about 1922 when he moved to Bend, Ore., and Married Joveta Donnelly there April 22, 1925. The were divorced in 1944.

The lived at Reubens for a time after their marriage, then at Bend and in 1931 moved to Pomeroy where he worked on ranches and as a mechanic. He was employed as a machinist at Vancouver, Wash., during World War II and then moved to Lewiston.

Survivors include four daughters, Wanda Chisholm and Mona Woodard of Lewiston, Barbara Adamson of Grangeville and Beverly Bryan of Sedor Woolley, Wash.; four sons, Robert O. Latham of Garfield, Ural Latlham of Boise, Kyle Latham of Ororino and Denney J. Latham of Cataldo; one brother, Robert D. Latham of Lewiston; six sisters, Ruth Dammam, Frances Byers, Juilia Frye and Vicky Rose, all of Leiwston, Effie Finley of Palouse and Ruby Holden of Salem, Ore., and 33 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. One sister Peggy Wilson, preceded him In death.
