Alanson was born in New York, the son of Simeon and Betsy Bliss.

In 1860 he was residing in LaPorte, IN age 29 with his wife Lodaiska (Lodoska) Age 28 both natives of New York.

Alanson was Commissioned Captain of Company G. 87th Indiana Infantry on Aug 13, 1862 and was mustered in on Aug 31, 1862. He was with the regiment at the Battle of Chicamauga where the regiment lost 40 killed and 142 wounded including 8 officers killed and 4 wounded, One half of all the officers and men of the regiment engaged in the battle were casualties. Following the battle he resigned his commission on Feb 15, 1864.

In 1870 he was again residing in LaPorte, IN where he was a lawyer by profession. He and Lodaisky had one daughter Nellie born 1862.

On March 28, 1895 he received an Army Invalid Pension which he received until his death.

He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic Post 5, Chicago, IL.

When he died in Chicago Feb 3, 1902 he was listed as a 70 year old widowed Lawyer who was buried at Oakridge Cemetery on Feb 6, 1902.
