Born in TN to Willie Mc-Cracken Hall and Ben H. Hall, Sr., he spent most of his early years in Atlanta, GA. He was a graduate of the Boys High School and Georgia Tech, where he received his degree in industrial relations.
Ben joined the DuPont Co. in 1942, first in Cincinnati, OH in the Remington Arms Plant, then to Niagara Falls in 1944, finally moving to Wilmington, working as a pensions and benefit manager, retiring in 1986.
A dedicated worker, nonetheless, his greatest love was playing the piano. Ben never took lessons until his later years, so he played everything by ear and made lifelong friends beginning with the Emory Aces at the Boys High School and during the Big Band Era, playing in such local circles as the Rhythm Doctors, Generations, Swing City, and the Hotel duPont lobby lounge. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and active in the Academy of Lifelong Learning.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Susan Redman Hall; and many friends who will always have him in their memories. A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, January 28, 2005, at the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, 503 Duncan Road, North Wilmington, DE 19809.
Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church; or to the Delaware Humane Association, 701 A St. Wilmington, DE 19801.
