The funeral for Mattie B. King, 94, of 1167 Terry's Mountain Road, Martinsville, who died Nov. 30, 2011, at Franklin Health and Rehab Center in Rocky Mount, will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of East Martinsville, Martinsville. The Rev. Charles Whitfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Philpott family cemetery, Martinsville.
The family will receive friends for a half hour before the service Tuesday and other times at the home.
She was born in Henry County on Feb. 12, 1917, to Jacob Philpott and Leora Bowles Philpott. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James S. King Sr.; sisters, Mildred Philpott, Ruby Foster-Smith, Joanne King Frazier and Virginia Kirby Witcher; and brothers, George, James, Jessie, Luther and Matthew Philpott.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of East Martinsville and a former member of Eastern Star Chapter in Detroit, Mich., where she was treasurer.
Surviving are a son, James S. King Jr. of Martinsville; a sister, Era Rashid (Reynolds) of Martinsville; one grandchild; one great-grandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.
