She attended Washington State University and was a member of Gamma Phi sorority where she met and fell in love with Vincent Parrott. They were married April 23, 1945. In 1946 their daughter Norma Jean was born and in 1948 they welcomed a son, John Vincent. Tragically that summer, Navy pilot Vincent was killed during a routine practice flight and Jean was widowed at the young age of 25.
Jean remained in Spokane near her family where she raised her two children until she met and fell in love again with Robert D. Peterson of Seattle, Washington. They were married in August of 1959. Immediately she took on the role of loving mother to Robert's two children Douglas and Janice. That bond was never broken. Jean was a person with a loving open heart; a gracious and elegant lady who was admired and loved by all who came to know her.
Surviving Jean are her two stepchildren, Douglas Peterson and Janice Witzel; her grandchildren Tricia Nilsen and Jerry Lockner, Ryan Peterson, Lynnette Frank, Yvette Morton, and Brant Witzel; and 12 great grandchildren. Also surviving are nephews Michael, David and Bruce Emery and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her brother John and her daughter Norma. Sadly her son John also passed away shortly after Jean on the very same day, December 27, 2010.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday January 16, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue, 1717 Bellevue Way NE Bellevue, Washington. Both Jean's and her son John's lives will be honored. Remembrances in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association .
