Through the Howes family, Mr. Niles traced his ancestry to Gov. William Brewster, John Howland, Elizabeth Tilley, and John Tilley, of the Mayflower, and to Richard Sears, of Plymouth, thence a Royal line to a King of Scotland.
Frank J. Niles was a very good dairy farmer, and a breeder of purebred Holstein cattle, showing at the Chenango County and NY State fairs. In 1949, he sold the Smyrna farm, and with his son John, purchased the Kutschbach farm in Sherburne. When health failed, he sold out his interest to the son.
Mr. Niles was at one time very active in milk organizations in Delaware County. He was a trustee and one of the builders of the Baptist Community Church, Trout Creek, NY, and a member of the Grange. At Smyrna he helped to organize that Grange. He was a director in the Smyrna Union Coop, a director in the Chenango Co. Agricultural Society and a long time member of the Holstein-Friesian Association of America.
Surviving are the widow Lena J. Niles, a daughter, Eva who is a teacher in the Canisteo Central School, and two sons, Harold a farmer in Smyrna, and John, on the home farm. Ten grandsons, Robert A., Thomas H., James D., and Eugene E., sons of Harold and Jean Niles, and Wayne J., David K., Stephen F., Roger O., Daniel E., and Stanley, sons of John and Rosemary Niles.
"Then in the living God will trust,
Who death all things well;
The body shall return to dust
The soul in heaven shall dwell"
