BRUNSWICK, Ga. — Eugene Monk "Gene" Beard Jr., 49, of Brunswick and formerly of Moultrie, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, in Brunswick.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 2, at First Presbyterian Church of Moultrie with the Rev. Hugh Ward officiating. Interment will be in Westview Cemetery.

Born Dec. 17, 1960, in Moultrie, he was the son of the late Eugene Monk Beard Sr. and Lillian Christine Roberts Beard. He was a 1979 graduate of Pineland High School and was a 1984 graduate of Jacksonville State University, where he was Sigma Nu Campus Representative and Marshall. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brunswick. He served in the United States Secret Service from 1985-2003, and was currently a Senior Fire Arms Instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Brunswick.

Survivors include two daughters, Gloria Christine Beard and Mary Elizabeth Beard, both of Moultrie; one sister, Cindy Lowery and husband Terry of Greenville, N.C.; one brother, James Bryan Beard of Wilmington, N.C.; two nephews, T. Neal Lowery Jr. and Thomas Eugene Lowery, both of Greenville, N.C.; four aunts, Iris Tillman of Moultrie, Marie Coggins of Bradenton, Fla., Helen Sullins and husband Christopher of Valdosta, Ga, and Barbara Beard of Winder, Ga.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Cobb Funeral Chapel.

Gene Beard was a member of the Iota Lambda Chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity at Jacksonville State University, Jacksonville, AL. His badge number was Iota Lambda 134.
