Mrs. Emma Curnutte Hughes, 88, of Louisa, Route 1, died at her home Thursday, May 2, after a one year illness. Funeral services were conducted from Busseyville Methodist Church, of which she was a member with the Rev. W. E. Chelgren officiating. Burial was in the Hughes Cemetery on Louisa route 1. A daughter of the late Greenville and Samantha Adams Curnutte, she was born in Lawrence County, October 5, 1879. Her husband, David Clark Hughes, died in 1950. Surviving are four daughters, Miss Mexia Hughes, at home, Mrs. Willard Bayes of Springfield, OH, and Mrs. Bourbon Meek and Mrs. Kenneth Pickrell of Louisa, route 1, four sons, Monroe Hughes of Louisa, Route 1, Morton Hughes of Wellsville, OH, Mitchell Hughes of Piedmont, OH, and Merle Hughes of Tampa, FL; a sister, Mrs. R. E. Dewees of Turtle Creek, WV, a brother, L. F. Curnutte of Fort Pierce, FL and 21 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. The body was taken from the Curtright Funeral Home to the home and to the church one hour before the services. Big Sandy News, May 9, 1968
