Mrs. Jewel Delores Stewart, 85, of Kingston, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 at a Rome nursing home. Born June 7, 1927 in Floyd County, she was the daughter of the late Olie Easterwood and the late Inez Williams Easterwood. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents are parents-in-law, Florence and Herman Joe Stewart; her grandson, Gregory Frank Baia; her sister, Sandra Easterwood; and her brothers, Edward and Mack Easterwood.

Mrs. Stewart was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharastic Minister for a number of years and volunteered for the parish to work in the church shop. She was also an active member of the Mountain Music club out of Rome. She spent her life making life better for those around her; was a loving wife, mother, and friend and had a gentle spirit. She always prepared enough for one more person to join in at the dinner table. Her hobbies were sewing, needle work and gardening. Mrs. Stewart was known for making the best banana pudding around. Our mother, was not only my moral and religious leader, she was my best friend.

Survivors include her husband, Edward William Stewart of Kingston; her daughter Rita and son-in-law, Dale G. Stover of Taylorsville; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jon Paul Baia of Columbus, October Baia of Atlanta, Maia Carlson of Maine, Jennifer Anne Baia of Cartersville, Christina Baia of Kingston, Emily Ballis, Georgia Higdon, William Higdon, Marley Higdon, Gregory Che’Chancelor of Cartersville, Jonathan Stewart of Plainville, Tara and Brady Stewart and Autumn Stewart of Savannah; her son and daughter-in-law, Ronald William and Annette Stewart of Kingston; her sisters, Pat Smith of Rome and Scherion Lillihaugen of Camarillo, CA; her brothers, Bruce Easterwood of Chattanooga, Bobby Easterwood of Miami and Larry Easterwood of Rome; her brother-in-law, John Fred Stewart of Kansas City, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.

A mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 5, 2012 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Daniel Stack officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens in Rome. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. at the church until the time of Mass. The family suggest that in lieu of flowers, for those who wish, may make contributions to the St. Francis of Assis Catholic Church Building Fund.
