John David Wallace, 76, of Baytown, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014. He was born in Goose Creek Hospital on July 20, 1937, to Gilbert Wallace and Lucy Wallace.

He was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School in 1955 and later went to The University of Texas on a football scholarship. Mr. Wallace worked for ExxonMobil for thirty years and was respected by all those he worked with or for.

He was a lifetime Texas Longhorn fan until his grandchildren, Colton Krenek and Brittany Wooten started college at Texas A & M University in 2012. He would be seen with A & M shirts and hats and cheering for the Aggies. He particularly enjoyed cheering for his granddaughter, Brittany, when she was pole vaulting at meets across the country, as she still does.

When his father, Gilbert, passed away at the young age of 49, he had to grow up quickly.

He became a father figure to his younger sister, Gayle and helped his mother cope with this untimely death, while also starting his own family with his beloved wife, Janice, and a one year old son. Janice was his high school sweetheart and he loved her very much. She was his wife of fifty-six years and the "apple of his eye."

Mr. Wallace loved his golf. Everyone wanted to play Golf with "Wally," as he was known on the links. He also coached Little League baseball for several years and was truly admired by all those many lives that were touched by him, including his son, Kent and nephew, Kyle, who he took under his wing and helped so much.

Mr. Wallace was a wonderful and loving husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, brother, friend, son, uncle, cousin, coach, and golfing partner. He will be remembered as always being available to babysit grandkids, take people to the doctor, and do whatever was needed. He was always there for others.

Preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, Kyle David Tylton, Mr. Wallace is survived by his loving wife, Janice Wallace; his son, David Kent Wallace and wife, Sandra Cravey Wallace, and their son, Christopher Walker; daughter, Anne Marie Krenek and husband, Terry, of Seabrook, and three children, Colton, Cameron and Connor Krenek; daughter, Susan Michelle Wooten and husband, David Kent Wooten, of Tomball, and children Brittany, Jacob, John and Bailee.

The family would like to say a word of thanks to the caregivers of Faith Community Hospice and the staff at Baytown Rehabilitation Center. He was loved and so very special to them all, and to mention names would probably miss or forget someone. They would also like to thank his roommate and cousin, Wayne Kitchell, along with his wife, Yvonne, who kept an extra watch over him, too. Special thanks go to Wayne's caregiver, Gabriel DeLeon, who helped out countless times with him when he didn't have to do so. The family is grateful for that unselfish kindness. Also, not a day went by at the Rehab Center that his loving wife, Janice, or his caring sister, Gayle, were not there visiting him and showing him their love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel of Crespo & Jirrels, with Reverend Mike Proctor officiating.

Burial will follow at San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston.

Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
