Robert E Neilson 89, of Egin, ID.; passed away at his home May 14, 2014 surrounded by family.

He was born June 25, 1924 in Heman Idaho the son of Gustave Otto Neilson and Ora Fisher Neilson, the second of five children.

He grew up in Heman and attended grade school there. He graduated from Sugar-Salem High School in l942.

He was inducted into the army in l944 and served in the European Theater with the Texas-Oklahoma 357th infantry regiment. He was in combat from Luxemborg to Czechoslovakia. He was instrumental in saving the Lipazzan mares from destruction by the Russians when Patton rescued the Spanish Riding School of Austria. He was honorably discharged in l946.

He was active in the LDS Church and served a mission in the East Central States Mission. While there he opened an area that had been closed because of the murders of two missionaries several years before. He also served as Bishop of the Egin Ward from 1959 to 1963, scoutmaster and teacher.

Robert married Thelma Frederiksen on the 6th of Sept. 1950 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They have lived their entire marriage in Egin area except for a few months at Kilgore and Chilco, ID. when they were first married.

He farmed and ranched with his father and loved to ride horses. He kept horses till he was no longer able to care for them.

Robert is survived by his wife Thelma of Egin, Children; Dan (Angie) Neilson Pueblo, CO. Karen (Nolon) Beard, Moore, ID.; Donnetta (Randy) Rhead and Ellen (Shayne) Remington both of Rexburg. ID.; Trudy Hower, Everett, WA.; Kesl (Marla) Neilson, Egin, ID.; Kyle (Renee) Neilson, Edgerton, MO.; 33 Grandchildren, 37 Great Grandchildren and a younger brother Chad (Karen) Neilson, Archer, ID.; Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Tad and Virgil and a sister Vada.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Egin LDS Church with Bishop LaVar Hunter, Officiating. Friends may call at the Bidwell Funeral Home Sunday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. and Monday one hour prior to the services in Egin. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery where military rites will be preformed by the St. Anthony V.F.W. and American Legion.
