Kathleen "Kay" Jensen, 74, of Sioux Falls, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls following a courageous battle against cancer.
Kathleen Marie Lucas was born October 10, 1939 to Warren J. and Agnes M. (Brusnighan) Lucas at Hillside, Michigan. She moved with her family to Sioux Falls where she received her education, graduating from Cathedral High School.
Kay worked for the telephone company for 27½ years as a tracer. Her phone company affiliation includes membership in the Telephone Pioneers. She was also a long time member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and the Catholic Daughters.
On November 24, 1979, she was united in marriage with Vernon "Bud" Jensen in Sioux Falls. Some of Kay's hobbies include snowmobiling, and becoming an accomplished artist in stained glass and fused glass. She was able to produce many original stained glass pieces throughout her life, a passion that became a second profession.
Surviving relatives include her husband, Vernon "Bud" Jensen of Sioux Falls; and three daughters, Cinda (Kirk) Wilson of Davis, SD, Cheryl (Dan) Robertson of Oakland, CA, and Karla (Chris) Romereim of Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and one granddaughter, Carrie Heiden.
Funeral Mass will begin 9:30 am Tuesday at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Interment will be in St. Michael Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
