Joe Bryson was born Dec. 29, 1925, and died peacefully at his home on Monday, July 22, 2002, after a lengthy illness. He worked at Ethyl Corp. for 16 years and Borden Chemical for 25 years until his retirement. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Viola Bryson; four daughters and their spouses, Corky and Bob Holley, Sue and Tom McCauley, Carmen and Barry Fousse and Joanna and Larry Efferson; 10 grandchildren, Kim Holley Loving and spouse Steve, Bryan Holley and spouse Cyd, Jason Holley, Joseph Smith and spouse Kelli, Myla Smith Waddill and spouse Jim, Jacque Houston, James Fousse, Ginger Fousse Galarpe and spouse Gary, Shanna D'Antonio and spouse Claude, and LeAnne Efferson; and three great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Hall Holley, Brianna Smith and Gillian Rose Galarpe. Also survived by a sister, Mozelle Caillouet and her family; a brother, Max Bryson and spouse Esther and their family; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Bryson Sr. and Loretter Chambers Bryson; and a sister, Laverne Bryson Ansley. He was also preceded in death by twin grandsons, Gregory Todd Holley and Robert S. Holley III. Visitation at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and after 8 a.m. Thursday. Service at the funeral home chapel at 9 a.m. Thursday, conducted by the Rev. Vic Messina. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and Steve Loving. Honorary pallbearers are Frank Dear, Gene Sims and Anthony Rebaldo. Special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge and their staff and Dr. Gerald Barber, for all of the care and support given to Joe and his family during his illness.
