Jean Barker Crockett of Wytheville, Va., passed away peacefully on May 14 at the age of 95 (but don't tell her we published her age). She was born at home in Gary, W.Va., and moved to Welch, W.Va., where she lived most of her life while somehow never learning to pronounce the town correctly. Jean was a proud member of the Roselawn Parents, an amazing group of men and women who taught a veritable multitude of children that parental love was not limited to the two people who brought you into this world. Jean spent her life loving people without limit, and she leaves behind children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, neighbors and acquaintances that are extremely proud to have been loved by her. Words on this page cannot begin to tell the tale adequately, so we will not even try. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Cora Barker; her husband, Strother Crockett; and her beloved daughter, Becky. She is survived by her children by birth, by marriage and by choice. She also leaves behind 15 beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also is survived by countless dear family and friends who should be listed here but simply cannot be. You know who you are. All of us were blessed by her life. Funeral service will be held at Wytheville Presbyterian Church at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 17. Interment will follow at Cove Presbyterian Church Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at Grubb Funeral Home in Wytheville, which is handling all arrangements.
