Don Owen Scott, age 85, passed away peacefully at his family home May 10, 2014, surrounded by the love of family.

Don was born July 19, 1928, in Bellingham, Washington to Russell and Ora (Hallet) Scott.

Don married Elaine Thompson of Bellingham on June 26, 1948. They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary next month. They moved to Sedro Woolley in 1958 where they raised their three children.

Don was known for his hard work, which he continued into his 70's. He began working at age 10 at Joe's Garden in Bellingham. He then worked for the Chicago/Milwaukee Railroad at age 15 and in coal-mining with his father a few years later. In the 1950's he went into the timber/logging industry and began working for Bendix/Skagit Steel in the 1960's until his retirement. After retiring with Skagit Steel, he worked for IRI of Clearlake.

Don leaves behind his wife, Elaine; daughter, Suzy Engberg of Sedro Woolley, and son, Jeffrey (Doni) of Granite Falls. He has seven grandchildren, Ryan (Lindsey) Scott of Bothell, Travis and Hailey Scott of Granite Falls, Dawn (Randy) Peschek of Maple Valley, Megan (Clark) Stonic of Portland, Amy Clark of Burlington, and Erin (Rueben) Maestas of Arizona. He has eight great-grandchildren.

Also surviving Don are his three sisters: twin-sister, Donna Daniels of Bellingham, Delores Forthum of Everson, and Lois Swenson of Bellingham.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his two siblings, Bob Scott and Iris Hall, and his son, Gregory.

At Don's request, there will be no funeral, however, there will be a memorial at a later date.

Special thanks goes to grandchildren, Erin and Rueben, for their exceptional love and care for him, and for making Don's wish to return home during his last weeks a reality, and to granddaughter, Megan, for her compassionate and loving care for him in his final days. Also the family would like to thank the entire Hospice Northwest team, (Dana, Jenny, Betty, Jesse and Gordon) for their constant support and dedication.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Lemley Chapel, Sedro-Woolley. Share memories of Don and sign the online guest register at www.lemleychapel.com
