Bettendorf Youth Killed In Crash
A Bettendorf youth was killed in a head-on collision about 3 p.m. Wednesday on Iowa 417 about 1 1/2 miles south of LeClaire when his van swerved into the path of a Pleasant Valley woman's car.
Killed was Stewart Lounsberry, 17, of 3 Oak Park Drive, Bettendorf. The driver of the other vehicle, Beverly A. Erwin, 43, of Pleasant Valley, was treated for cuts and bruises at St. Luke's Hospital and later released.
According to Scott County sheriff's reports, the Erwin vehicle was southbound on the highway when she saw the Lounsberry vehicle go over into her lane. She attempted to get out of the way, but the cars collided.
Mr. Lounsberry was a star swimmer for the Bettendorf High School swim team and was to participate in the state championships this weekend.
Services for the Mr. Lounsberry will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Methodist Church, Davenport. Burial will be in Rock Island Memorial Park.
Visitation is 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Hill & Fredricks Mortuary, Davenport.
Memorials may be made to the Stewart Lounsberry Memorial Fund for the Bettendorf High Swim Team.
He was born in St. Louis, Mo. He was a junior at Bettendorf High School.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lounsberry, Bettendorf; two sisters, Elizabeth and Sheila, both a home; and his maternal grandmother, mrs. Agnes Newtson of Millford.
