Evert, the son of Hendrik and Wilhelmina (Veldhuizen) Van Veldhuizen was born February 28, 1905 near Harvey. He attended the Tracy Christian Reformed Church as a young boy. He made profession of faith at an early age.

On January 23, 1930 Evert was united in marriage to Bertha Klyn. They farmed in Mahaska County before moving to Pella. He was employed by Pella Corporation (Rolscreen).

Evert loved his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandson. He enjoyed working with horses, raising pigs, and picking corn by hand. Evert always had a smile on his face and a warm handshake ready to greet you.

He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

On Wednesday, January 29, 2003 Evert passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center - Long Term Care Unit at the age of 97 years, 11 months and one day.

He is survived by four daughters and their spouses: Willena and Wes Westra of Pella; Alvada and Robert Rozenboom of Bussey; Norma and Keith Nibbelink of Pella; and Evy and Dave Verschuure of Leighton; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Also surviving are two sisters: Grace (Case) Nunnikhoven of Oskaloosa and Minnie Sterk of Grinnell; two sisters-in-law: Helen (Mrs. Frank) Van Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa and Cornelia (Mrs. Henry) Van Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by Bertha; his parents: Hendrika and Wilhelmina Van Veldhuizen; an infant daughter, Irene; four brothers: Cornie, William, Frank and Henry; a sister, Margaret Van Hall; two sisters-in-law: Henrietta (Mrs. William) Van Veldhuizen and Jeanette (Mrs. Cornie) Van Veldhuizen; two brothers-in-law: John Van Hall and Cornie Sterk; and two great-grandchildren: Matthew Rozenboom and Brianna Westra.
