The son of John W and Hannah (Sumner) Walter, William married Catherine Housh 19 Nov 1840 in Maquon, Knox Co, Illinois. The Lord blessed them with several children: Wesley, Sarah Jane, Thomas Richardson, Butler Isaiah, Adam Washington, John Marion, Abraham, Eliza Vianna, James Carey, Cynthia Ann, Nancy Elizabeth, Leonidas Emery, and Rebecca Maris Walter.
The family lived in Maquon, Knox County, Illinois, until the 1870's, when they moved to Butler County, Nebraska.
