Carol Sue Rowland
June 14, 1952 - May 3, 2014

Long-time Grand Junction resident, Carol Sue Rowland, passed away peacefully at her home with her loving friends and caregivers by her side, on May 3, 2014. She was 61 years old.

Carol Sue was born to John E. and Mildred Ellen (Gilbert) Rowland on June 14, 1952 (Flag Day) in San Diego, CA.

Carol spent her earlier years with her family in Denver and was later admitted to the Grand Junction Regional Center for care and educational services July of 1963. While she lived at the GJRC, Carol enthusiastically participated in the Resident Advisory Council/RAC for several decades bettering the lives of others.

She remained at the GJRC until she moved into a small home managed by Community Intersections in November of 2002. Due to serious health issues, Carol later relocated to two homes, Laurel Lane and Victoria Drive, both managed by Strive.

Carol's strengths were noted to be her outgoing personality and her good sense of humor. She enjoyed going to church, spending time at the Palisade Library, attending classes at the Art Center, her family visits, the Farmers Market, dancing at the Prom, working, her various collections, and socializing with her many friends as often as possible.

Carol Sue will forever live in our hearts and we are blessed and grateful to have known her.

Her brother, Roger, and guardian, Jodi, would like to thank all of her dedicated and loving staff members that worked with her and gave her a wonderful quality of life as well as all the medical professionals who have cared for her.

Carol Sue is survived by her two brothers, Roger and Tim Rowland; and her 1st cousin; Kristi Rowland; all of Denver; her legal guardian, Jodi Saro, and her former medical guardians, Anita and Bob Lefever, all from Grand Junction.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Carol Sue's honor to either the Grand Junction Regional Center Resident Benefit Fund (2800 Riverside Parkway, Grand Junction, CO 81501) or Strive's Client Fund (950 Grand Avenue, Grand Junction, CO 81501).

A Celebration of Life Service will take place at her former residence located in Grand Junction, CO on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 11:00 AM. Her friend of many years, Father Steve Prodromides, will officiate.

Carol has been buried in the family plot next to her father in Olinger Chapel Hill Cemetery in Centennial, CO.
