Born on Dec. 17, 1930, in Coraopolis, he was the son of the late John Schofield and Mildred Rathusky.
He received his Bachelor's of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1955, where he lettered three years in football, baseball and basketball. Following that, he received his Master's Degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1958.
John was employed as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Roche Pharmaceutical, retiring in 1980 following more than 25 years' service.
John was a district secretary, district governor and a past president of the Butler Lions Club for many years. He also was past commander of the American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora and president of the United Ostomy Association. He was also a member of the Masons Lodge 45 in Pittsburgh and Lodge 272 in Butler for 60 years.
He enjoyed gardening and reading. As he was a licensed sports official, he also enjoyed sports.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a major in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Butler.
Surviving are his wife, Carol A. (Burget) Schofield, who he married on June 9, 1956; his daughter, Sharon (Thomas) Puluso of Cranberry Township; his son, Wesley Schofield of Butler; his three grandchildren, and his great-grandchild.
Schofield - The friends of John G. Schofield, who passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, will be received at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First English Lutheran Church, 241 N. Main St., Butler, with Pastor James Dollhopf officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Butler County Memorial Park.
