Supported by the love and understanding of a Christian father and mother, the Lord's laws and values were kept safe in her heart. Graduating from high school in 1931 with honors, she also joined the Nazarene Church that summer. She attended Olivet Nazarene University where she met Clyde Ammons. They were married May 31, 1933 in Council Bluffs, Iowa with Dr. Hardy C. Powers, Sr. officiating. To this union, three children were born; two daughters and one son, giving great joy to their parents.
Rev. and Mrs. Ammons served as pastor and wife in the Nazarene denomination for 47 years; five churches in the Iowa District and one in Texas, Dallas Central, for 29 of those years. Mrs. Ammons took an active part in the music department of each church, serving as choir director at Davenport and Sioux City, IA and 18 years at Dallas Central Church. She was also dedicated to World Missions, serving as the NWMS President of the Dallas District from 1962-1972.
She was a gracious hostess of the parsonage, always giving a warm welcome with her special smile. Her extended love to all will long be remembered. The Ammons retired from pastoring in 1976, moved to Bethany, OK and joined Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Preceding her in death, her husband, Dr. Clyde E. Ammons, died on May 4, 1998, her "Beloved" of 65 years. In August, 1998, Mrs. Ammons moved to Olathe, KS to be near her son.
Survivors include her daughters, Doris L. Trant and husband John of Tyler, TX, and B. Janelle Maxwell of Wichita, KS; son, Curtis E. Ammons and wife Sandra, Olathe, KS; 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. All were very dear to Mrs. Ammons.
Memorials may be sent to the MNU Athletic Fund, MidAmerica Nazarene University, Olathe, KS. Viewing will be Wednesday, 1-9pm, with family present on Thursday from 11am-1pm at Mercer-Adams. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 15, 3:00pm at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel, OKC.
