Mr. Gordon Wilson Bailey, 77, of Powderbag Creek Road, Hartwell, died Monday, May 12, 2014 at his home.
Born on December 3, 1936, in Greenville, SC he was a son of the late Woodrow W. Bailey and Easter Covil Bailey. He was a retired English teacher and coach from Hart County High School and Wren High School. He was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church, a published Poet and a US Navy veteran.
Survivors include: his wife: Phyllis M. Bailey; one son: Gordon Sean Bailey of Raleigh, NC; two daughters: Kim B. Barker of Lawrenceville, GA and Michelle B. Gehman of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren: Anna Barker, Carrie Barker, Kathryn Bailey and Jacob Bailey; one great grandchild: Melanie Kight; one brother: Gene Bailey of Tampa, FL, two sisters: Glenda Bailey-Mershon of Charlotte, NC and Gail B. Rogers of Simpsonville, S C.
He was preceded in death by one brother: Gary Bailey.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel of Hartwell with Rev. John Silver officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell, where the family will receive friends Thursday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. The family is at the home. Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the Sardis Baptist Church Family Life Center Building Fund, 4359 Anderson Hwy, Hartwell, GA. 30643.
