CHARLOTTE - Amy Elam, 86, of Charlotte, went home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 7, 2014, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's.

She was born Amy Naomi Frye on Feb. 2, 1928, in Salisbury, to her late parents, William Bryan Frye, Sr. and Carrie Miller Frye.

Amy graduated from the Presbyterian Hospital, School of Nursing in Charlotte on Sept. 4, 1948 and Duke University, School of Nursing with a BS in Education/Nursing in Durham on June 6, 1955. She was passionate about her life's work as a RN because she enjoyed caring and comforting her patients.

She loved her church especially her circle group. All who knew her have been richly blessed by her kind, gentle, quiet, compassionate and loving spirit.

She was the last of six siblings (Vera, Helen, Bill, Frank and Jo) to leave this earth. She was also predeceased by her loving husband, Louis Elam.

She is survived by her children Rodney, Ken, Linda and Michael Elam and her grandson, Bryan Elam (son of Ken and Becky).

A private graveside burial service is at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery. A celebratory service is at St Luke's Lutheran Church at 12 pm on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
