Elizabeth was born in Rugby , Warwickshire , England. 13 of Feb 1825. She was the first child of Henry and Mary Ann Harwood Walton.
Eleven more children were born to this marriage. With such a large family to provide for , Henry a bricklayer had a hard time. It was nesscary for little Elizabeth to help out by working outside the home. As well as helping her Mother. She found work at the boys school in Rugby, cleaning windows, and other household tasks. She was able together some education in exchange for her work.while working at the school she met Henry Russell, they became friends then sweethearts. They were married when she was 20 years old and Henry was 25,On their marriage certificate they were both listed as servants . They were married on July 24, 1845 , Henry's birthday.They lived in Rugby for a few years and it was there that their first two children were born. Henry and William. However William lived only a few days. A few months after his death the family moved to Coventry where the rest of the family was born.Walton died at age 4 and Thomas was only a year when he too died. As the Coventry Bells tolled the hour of 12 midnight Elizabeth was having another baby. Afew min. After the bells stoped ringing the first girl babe was born. They named her Eliabeth after her mother and Jane after her Aunt. The whole family adored and loved this baby girl who would grow up to be my great grandmother. In a few more years another girl Sarah was born. Then on the 24 of July 1866 their anniversary and Henry's birthday another girl Naomi was born to them.this must have indeed been a joyous time after having seven lively boys to be blessed with 3 lovely daughters. In 1848 they were taught by the Mormon missionaries about a true gospel that was being taught. They were soon baptized . Even in Englad , there were those who did not tolerant of new religion . They were no exception, one day when she was holding Naomi a brick was thrown through the open door taking of the top of her bonnet , however, they were not injured. Elizabeth helped with the family finances as much as she could by going out and doing people's laundry. When her sixth child was born, she had been out washing all day on the way home she took the midwife with her. Though a slight person she was hard working and very energetic person. On Sundays the children looked forward to having the missionary's over for dinner. Elizabeth often left a rice pudding cooking on the stove (or hearth) while they went to Sunday School. Once when they got home she was so embarrassed to find she had forgotten to add the the rice. Blackberry bushes were used as hedges tsurounding the farm. They kept the pigs from running away. Elizabeth made deliicious jam from blackberries mixed with Apples. . One of the last nightly chores was for Elizabeth to pump a kettle full of water which then was hung on a hook over the fireplace so it would be ready for use in the morning.
