William served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-24G #42-78322, 782nd Bomber Squadron, 465th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on May 1, 1942 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

B-24G #42-78322 took off from Pantanella Italy on a bombing mission over Friedrichshafen, Germany. They were attacked by German aircraft and shot down and crashed in Germany during the war.

William was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.
