Obituary:
Harriet Burns Lane, 80, of McDowell County, Marion, North Carolina passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Memorial Campus of Mission Hospital. A native of Burke County, born March 28, 1934, she was the daughter of the late John Nelson and Ola Poteat Burns. Known as having a servants heart, Harriet volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Board of Elections and American Red Cross. Following more than 20 years of service, she retired from the U.S. Postal Service. Harriet was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she served as secretary and treasurer and sang in the choir. She was also an active member of UMW. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Guy Lane, of the home; two daughters, Teressa Lane Haynes and husband, Tim, of Forest City and Lisa Lane McCurry, of Marion; three grandchildren, Krystan Estes and husband, Trent, Travis Haynes and wife, Jessica and Jake McCurry and fiance, Shala; four great-grandchildren, Ethan and Eli Estes, Ava McCurry and Lane Haynes.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 15, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Westmoreland Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held Friday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Dennis Burleson and Bill Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park.
