NASHVILLE - Retired Col. Rolland S. Abrahams, 98, died July 5, 2003, while visiting his daughter in Cleveland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Johanna Abrahams; sister, Rose Goldman; and brother, Harris Abrahams. Survivors include his children, Dr. Lawrence Abrahams (Hanna) of New Orleans; Jane Daroff (Dr. Robert) of Shaker Heights, Ohio; Dr. Sanders Abrahams (Jeanne) of Raleigh, N.C. He was a fourth generation Nashvillian. He served in the U.S. Army from 1923-25, was a special agent, Alcohol Tax Unit. He also worked for the U.S. Treasury Dept. from 1935-40 and served again in the U.S. Army from 1940-50. He also worked as an accountant for Reynolds Metals Co. from 1952-56. He was stationed at numerous Army posts in the continental United States, Alaska and Japan until retirement from the Army in 1950 when he returned to Nashville. He attended Hume Fogg High, the University of Tennessee School of Engineering, Vanderbilt University School of Engineering and Cumberland University School of Law. He was a member of The Tennessee Bar, Sons of Confederate Veterans, The Temple, Retired Officers Association, Vanderbilt University Quinc, American Council for Judaism, and received multiple military decorations. He was a benefactor of Cumberland University. Memorials may be made to the Republican Jewish Coalition, 50 N.W. F St., Suite 100, Washington, DC 20001. A funeral service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Friday with Rabbi Randall M. Falk officiating. Interment will be in Temple Cemetery.
