Philip Lovatt Rutherford, born 27 August 1949 at Kingston, New York the youngest of four children to Lowell Matthews Rutherford and Jean Lovatt Rutherford, was a direct descendant of John and Betty More's Jonas line. His parents divorced when he was quite young and he was raised by his mother and step-father, Charles Andrew Ball , at Essex Center, Vermont. Philip graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy at St. Johnsbury, Vermont in 1968 where he was active in basketball and track. Philip married to JMA#M4312314 on 15 April 1971 at Burlington, Vermont. They made their home first at Rhinebeck, New York and relocated permanently to Milton, Vermont near Burlington about 1977. Philip died in the evening of 24 September 1995 near Randolph, Vermont when he, on his motorcycle, collided with a moose on Interstate 89.
