BEWARE!! Mary E Boggs' younger sister Malissa Belle Boggs, 1875-1938, called herself MARY and it has caused a lot of mix-up between the sisters records. Malessia Belle "Mary" Boggs married McDaniel Igo on 1 Aug 1891 in Roane Co WV

M. E. Boggs in the West Virginia Marriage Records, 1863-1900
Name: M. E. Boggs (Mary E. Boggs)
Gender: Female
Spouse: M. G. Davis (Morris Gordon Davis)
Spouse Gender: Male
Marriage Date: 17 Aug 1886
County: Clay
State: West Virginia

Regarding a picture of an BOGGS-DAVIS-EAGLE Reunion:
Mary E. (Boggs) Davis was identified by Denver Jacob 'Den' Eagle,1921-1997, as his grandmother, Mary (Boggs) Davis, when Evelyne (Eagle) McLaughlin had the picture printed in a Clay Co., WV paper to see if anyone could identify any of those pictured.

Added to that is the fact that Mary (Boggs) Davis had had her last child, Sampson Coburn Davis, in Feb of 1894 in Ritchie Co., WV. Mary (Boggs) Davis died sometime between the birth of M. J. Boggs a female daughter died 30 Jul 1896. and the date when Mary's husband, Morris Gordon Davis,1866-1939, remarried a second wife, of three, on 18 November 1896 in Clay Co., WV. The second wife was Nancy Belle Buchkhammer who died before 3 January 1911, when M. G. Davis married his third wife, Frances 'Fannie' Holcomb in Clay Co., WV, on 3 Jan 1911.
……………..
Beware ! Some list this MARY E. BOGGS as the child of David Pierson Boggs, died 1904 & Bathsheba "Barbara'Duddield, 1841-1902. INCORRECT

They also list Morris Gordon Davis as Paris Gordon Davis WRONG!!!!
However, they state that Mary Jane E. Boggs Davis died in 1938 WRONG!!!! Morris Gordon Davis was married three times by 1938
…………….
MORRIS GORDON DAVIS MARRIED THREE TIMES:

Marriage
Vol # 4 # 28 " The Clay Co Marriage Records"
17 Aug 1886
M. G. Davis ...age 20
M. E. Boggs age 15.

They were listed as having been born in Clay Co., WV., ( which is incorrect._Karen EAGLE Moman)
Married by William Burns. (I , Karen EAGLE Moman, find the name of the minister an interesting fact. Perhaps it was transcribed incorrectly. I found no family by the name of Burns in the 1880 Clay Co ., WV., Census. Perhaps the Burns family came after the Census to the Clay Co., West Virginia, area.
…………..
NOTE THE MISINFORMATION IN THIS RECORD-THIS IS WHY I HAD MARY'S PARENTS INCORRECT FOR A WHILE-Karen EAGLE Moman.

Morris G. Davis, ….20, b. Clay Co , s/o Stephen O. & Jemima*
Mary E. Boggs, ……..15, b. Clay Co, d/o Jefferson & Mary Ann (of OH) * WRONG!
Married by William Burns
* This source has the places of birth, of both Morris Gordon & Mary E. Boggs, incorrect. THIS MARY E. BOGGS WAS NOT THE DAUGHTER OF NAMED PARENTS. SHE IS THE daughter of CHARLES WESLEY BOGGS AND HIS FIRST WIFE, LOUISA SUMMERS. C. W. BOGGS THEN MARRIED THE SISTER OF MORRIS GORDON DAVIS, KESIAH M. E. ‘EMSY' DAVIS.
Morris Gordon Davis was born in Union Township , (P. O. Harrisville) Ritchie Co.,WV

MARRIAGE # 2
2. Nancy Belle Buchammer 18 Nov 1896 Clay Co., WV. Nancy age 21 and Morris 30. (pg # 214)
Vol 2 # 214
Lic. secured on 17 Nov 1896. Married the next day.
M. G. Davis age 29 and Nancy age 21. Married by Rev. Joseph Delaney.

MARRAIGE # 3
3. Francis "Fannie" Holcomb 3 June 1911 Clay Co., WV. Frances age 23 Morris age 44. (# 230)
Vol 6 # 230
Marriage Record gave names as M. G. Davis & Fannie Holcomb. Married by: Z. M. Elmore (this name is hard to read).

Francis Holcomb was first married to Enoch W. Starcher, per Rick Holcomb

The age of "Fannie" Holcomb is listed as 23 when she was married in 1902 in Clay Co WV.,
……………….
Clay Co., WV, Birth & Death Records
Vol. 1891-1907, 1896 (sic) Deaths, line 10, M. E. Davis

Davis, M. E., white, female, d. July 28, 1890, Clay Co., age 4 fever, b. December 28, 1895 Parents, M. G. & M. E. Davis Informant, A. E. Carnes

If I transcribed the records correctly, then the clerk or the informant mixed things up. An 1895 death is listed in 1896 deaths. M. E. may actually be a child & the July date is actually the birthdate & the December date is actually the birth date. If the child was really 4, then maybe b. December 28, 1890, d. July 28, 1895. Or, ... maybe the dates, whatever they are, belong to the 1 yr. old child, M. J., and M. E. is actually the wife of Morris Gordon Davis & died July 30, 1896. It's just too speculative at this point. I checked the Braxton Co. deaths, too, but didn't find a Davis where it should be. I put the 2 entries in my file but it's probably best to just keep them aside until something more certain is found.
RICK HOLCOMB
(I, Karen EAGLE Moman, had also found the same data and was completely in awe of the records as they were entered. Rick Holcomb was very helpful in helping me figure out all the kinks.
THANK YOU RICK!

BURIAL:
Most likely Mary E (BOGGS) Davis is buried somewhere in Clay Co WV or Rithcie Co WV (where her last child was born abt 1895). I have looked since 1985 and have not found where she is interred.
