PITTSFIELD, BERKSHIRE Co., MA - Mrs. Olive Lurinda (Ford) Sykes, ( 77y ) d: November 30, 1980 - of the Rockridge Retirement Home, Coles Meadow Road, Northampton, retired Pittsfield teacher, died yesterday at Cooley- Dickinson in Northampton following a long illness. Born in Hinsdale, daughter of Franklin and Charlotte Wurgler Ford, she came to Pittsfield as a child. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and from Westfield State Teacher's College. Mrs. Sykes was a teacher in the Pittsfield school system for 40 years. Her last assignment was at the former Mercer school, where she taught for 15 years until her retirement in 1963. Mrs. Sykes was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church. She was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) at the church, and was a former member of the Chapter L of PEO of Pittsfield, and a member of the Masschusetts Retired Teachers Association. She was the widow of George W. Sykes, who died in 1974. She leaves a son, Franklin G. Sykes of Vernon, Conn.; a daughter, Miss Carol O. Sykes of Harwich; a foster son, William I. Stewart of Lee; a sister, Mrs. Mabel Bennett of Northampton; a brother, Franklin E. Ford of Midland, Mich., and five grandchildren. END:
