Elizabeth Dills FORT LAWN - Mrs. Elizabeth Lane Kirkpatrick Dills, 91, died Saturday, May 10, 2014. She was born Sept. 7, 1922, in Gastonia, N.C., the daughter of the late Horace Lane and Edna Gardner Lane. Mrs. Dills was first married to the late Joe G. Kirkpatrick Jr. and secondly to the Rev. Wayne Dills. Mrs. Dills was a graduate of Gastonia High School and Gardner Webb College. She worked as an executive secretary during her career, was the former mayor of Fort Lawn and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Lawn, S.C. Mrs. Dills is survived by her husband, the Rev. Wayne Dills; three sons, Tim Kirkpatrick (Linda) of Monroe, N.C., James Kirkpatrick (Sherry) of Burnsville, N.C., and the Rev. Joe G. Kirkpatrick III (Cindy) of Indian Trial, N.C.; a stepson, Dan Dills of Gastonia, N.C.; a sister, Bernice L. Griffin of Douglas, Ga.; nine grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Dills was preceded in death by two brothers, Craig Lane and Earl Lane and two sisters, Jean Tolbert and Kathryn Hodges. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Dills will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Fort Lawn, officiated by the Revs. Jimmy Jordan and Joe G. Kirkpatrick III. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. The family of Mrs. Dills will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and suggest memorial contributions be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church, Playground Fund, 531 Edwards Rd., Fort Lawn, SC 29714 or Agape Hospice, 1317 Ebenezer Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29732.
