Lela Dale, nee Lela Jewel Baethge, was born May 2, 1919, at Doss, Gilliespie County, Texas. She was the daughter of William (Willie) Baethge and Ethel Faught Baethge. She died Thursday, May 8, 2014, at the age of 95 in the Knopp Healthcare & Rehab at the age of 95 years.

Lela attended school at Doss. As soon as she was old enough, her daddy, then the Postmaster at Doss, swore her in as a postal clerk. Working as a clerk was part of her chores in addition to helping in the General Merchandise store. In later years, she worked as a bookkeeper in San Antonio for different businesses. In 1951, she married Dr. J.P. Dale. They lived in Dallas until 1963, when they moved to Fredericksburg. She was the receptionist and bookkeeper in their chiropractic clinic in Fredericksburg until they retired. When she married she was blessed with a step-daughter, Lynn, whom she loved very much. Lela had no children of her own, but she loved little children and they loved her. They always wanted to sit by her in church. Her great-nieces and nephews remember her taking them on nature walks and going fishing, and she even helped them clean the fish they caught. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends! They were always welcome in her home. Lela was a faithful member of New Hope Primitive Baptist Church in Fredericksburg. Her husband was a pastor at this church and she enjoyed being a minister's wife. She devoted herself to her husband and her church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brother Elmo Baethge, brother Armo Lee Baethge, and his wife Joyce Baethge, brother-in-law Joe Owen, and niece Kerry Vern Schmidt.

She is survived by her sister, Norma Owen, and sister-in-law Frances Baethge; step-daughter Lynn Miller (Tim), 5 step-grandchildren; Jim Gifford (Rosemary), John Gifford, Jackie Niemi, Giina Bradley, Joe Watkins (Vicki); 9 great step-grandchildren, 10 great-great step grandchildren; nieces Carol Jo Martin (Tom), Rhonda Usner (Pat), nephews Dr. Courtney Owen (Pat), Dr. Bruce Baethge (Donna), Warren Baethge (Lorraine), Gordon Baethge (Jean) and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews and many cousins.

The body will lie in state in the chapel of the Schaetter Funeral Home, Fredericksburg; and in the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church with Funeral Services with the Elder David Montgomery officiating.

Graveside services and interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery.
