August 14, 1934 ~ May 7, 2014
"David loved to see his family; a big grin would stretch across his face every time his children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren would open the door to his house for a visit."
David Becker, Sr., a long time resident of Dollars Corner, Washington, passed away the morning of May 7, 2014, due to heart complications. He moved to the Yacolt/Lucia Falls area from San Bernardino, California at the age of eight.
David joined the Marines at the age of eighteen. He was very proud to have served his country as a Marine in the Korean War. He was discharged in December of 1955.
David married Shirley Humphrey of Azusa, California in 1955. Eventually they settled down in Dollars Corner near Battle Ground, Washington where they raised their six children: Beverly, Brenda, David, Jr. "Doobie", Dean, Bonnie and Darryl.
David, along with his mother, father, and brother, built the first hamburger stand, "The Dandy Burger", across the street from Battle Ground High school (now the site of Silver Dragon). In addition he owned a mechanic shop in town and for a while worked as a logger until he bought a dump truck and started "Dollars Corner Sand and Gravel".
Together with his family, they built Moulton Falls Park and trails, including the beautiful bridges we still enjoy there today. In May 1980, the family was one of the first people to make it into the Mt. St. Helens area to clean up after the eruption.
David lived his life at his home in Dollars Corner with his wife, Alla and step-daughter, Inna. And for many years, he served as a volunteer firefighter for the Dollars Corner Fire Dept.
Some of his hobbies included: panning for gold, searching for treasures at garage sales and flea markets, and enjoying his vacation spot in Mulege, Mexico.
David is survived by his wife, Alla; former wife, Shirley; his six children; two step-daughters; 21 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmen Becker and Buck (Clarence) Becker, and brother, Daniel Becker.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at The Church of Latter-day Saints, 14809 NE 259th St., Battle Ground, Washington 98604, with the burial following at Lewisville Cemetery, 26515 NE Lewisville Hwy, Battle Ground, Washington. Friends and family were welcome to join in a Celebration of Life following burial at Alderbrook Park, 24414 NE Westerholm Rd., Brush Prarie, WA 98606.
