THOMAS, Craig C. (Age 66) Our community has lost a hero and a remarkable human being. Craig C. Thomas of Spokane, passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2014. Born on November 19, 1947 to the late Charles and Patricia Thomas, Craig lived most of his life in Spokane. He graduated from Shadle Park High School in 1967 and was called to serve in the Vietnam War.
While serving in Vietnam, Craig was wounded and lost both his legs. Because he served in Vietnam with honor and distinction, Craig was awarded two purple hearts and a Silver Star.
The loss of both his legs did not prevent Craig from going on to live an exciting and adventurous life. He returned from the war in 1968 and graduated from community college in Spokane with two degrees.
In 1971, he married Charlotte Tomson and together they had three beautiful daughters. Craig had a successful career with Washington Water Power (now Avista Energy) and retired after 27 years of service.
Craig loved spending time with his family. Craig loved to ski, fish, hunt, scuba dive, whitewater raft, and work with wood. Over the years, he served as coach for many of his daughters' softball teams. He was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He was loving, kind, fashionable, and had a great sense of humor, often pulling pranks with his wife on unsuspecting neighbors.
Craig is survived by his wife Char; his daughter, Jennifer and her husband Scott Bricker of North Carolina, daughter, Marti Thomas of Spokane, daughter, Alexis Thomas of Louisiana, and many loving friends and family members. He is also survived by his beloved dog Sport, and two cats, Amelia and Chloe.
He is preceded in death by his brother, Steven Thomas, and nephew Michael Thomas, whom he loved very much.
Visitation will be on Friday, May 16th from 4 - 8 pm at Hennessy-Smith Funeral Home with a Rosary Service following at 7 pm. Craig's funeral service will be held on May 17, 2014 at Assumption Catholic Church at 11:00 am. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
