SUN PRAIRIE - James Edward Churchill, age 83, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2014. He was born on May 11, 1930, in Walworth, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps and then graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After working for a time in Chicago, he was a business education teacher at the Pewaukee, Wis., and Sun Prairie, Wis., high schools.

Jim joined the staff of the University of Wisconsin-Madison with the Division of Student Affairs, later with the Office of Academic Services/Dean of Students, and then the Division of University Outreach. He retired in 1995.

Jim's survivors include his wife, Ruth Diederich Churchill; sons, David (Tammy) of Fergus Falls, Minn., and Daniel of Milwaukee, Wis.; grandchildren, Caitlin and Ross; step-grandchildren, Eli, Samuel and Jonah Sorum; sister, Joanne (Patrick) Coleman; and sister-in-law, Helene Churchill.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John (Helene).

Graveside services will be held at FOREST HILL CEMETERY, 1 Speedway Road, Madison, on Saturday, May 17, 2014, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Frank Gaylord officiating. Memorials may be made to Sun Prairie United Methodist Church, 702 North St., Sun Prairie, WI 53590.

The family thanks all the loving staff of Sun Prairie Health Care Center, pastors Frank Gaylord and Scott Carlson, and other special thanks to friends Pam Girard and Joe Corry.
