MRS. CHRISTINA SCHAFER
Mrs. Christina Schafer, who celebrated her 84th birthday Tuesday, died last night in a local hospital following a brief illness. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.
She had lived at 3451 Illinois Avenue for the last year. Previously she lived for many years at 2304 Holly Avenue.
Mrs. Schafer was born in Russia and had lived in the Fresno area most of the 61 years since she came to the United States. She became a naturalized citizen in 1940. Her husband, George, died in 1954. She was a member of the Free Evangelical Lutheran Cross Church.
She has no surviving relatives. Mrs. John Gross of 629 Collins Avenue is her closest friend. They have known each other since before they came to this country from Russia.
The funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Carl Maier in the church of which she was a member Monday at 2 PM. Internment will be in the Belmont Memorial Park under the direction of Easley's Funeral Home.
