A celebration of life and potluck for Cortez resident Stanley J. Brewer will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 14, at Parque de Vida Pavilion in Cortez.


Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, July 13, at Ertel Memorial Chapel.

Stanley was born on Aug. 30, 1926, in Wilcox, Ariz. to Ernest Elmer and Altie Ivy (Hatch) Brewer. He passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at his home at the age of 85.

Stanley married Pressie Jaramillo in Las Vegas, Nev., in 1975. He was a miner for many years and some of his work and history can be found in the Telluride Museum. Stanley was a member of the American Legion and he enjoyed the outdoors and treasure hunting.

Surviving Stanley are his children, Heather Vasquez of Cortez, Shemia Brewer of Chicago, Ill., Patricia Lucas of Oregon, Louie Sanchez of Battle Mountain, N.V., Viola Foti of Cortez, Paul Sanchez of Durango, and Andy Sanchez of Cortez; his 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Altie Brewer; his wife, Pressie Brewer; his daughter, Angel Krafka; his five brothers; and four sisters.

Services are under the direction of Ertel Funeral Home
