DEATH OF FORMER RESIDENT
Mrs. Martha Day Holt
Will Be Remembered By Many

News Has been received here of the death of Mrs. Martha Day Holt, whose early life was spent In Homer, and who will be remembered by the older residents. Her death occurred at the home of her daughter [Grace Day Holt], Mrs. Henry Newton, at Providence, R. I., on Monday
evening, Sept. 24. Mrs. Holt, who was before marriage, Martha S. Day, was a daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Day and was born in Madras, India, in November, 1839. Her parents were among the
early settlers of Homer, her father being a Baptist minister and for some years her mother taught a select school before the kindergarten had materialized. Feeling deeply Impressed with the need of workers in the foreign mission field they went to India and spent some years, expending all of their energies toward the work of bringing those heathen nations to a knowledge of their Savior. After some years
the family returned to Homer and the four children were given the advantages of Homer academy. Mrs. Holt's twin sister, Miss Mary Day, died in Cortland nearly two years ago. Mrs. Holt returned to this country only a few years ago,after devoting thirty-two years Of her
life to missionary work on foreign fields. A sister, Ellen R.. [Mrs. Amos L. Kenney of Truxton] and brother, James B„ have preceded their sister to their eternal home. Funeral services for Mrs. Holt will
he held at her daughter's home today and burial will be made In Providence.
