Pierpont - Mildred Lee, 99 of Roslyn, formerly of Pierpont died Saturday, March 19, 2005, at Lake Area Hospital in Webster. Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, at Skudesnes Lutheran Church near Pierpont. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Fiksdal Funeral Service in Webster on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. and prior to services on Thursday. Mildred Evelyn Nygaard was born to Isaac and Henrietta (Nilson) Nygaard on Saturday, January 27, 1906, at the Hans Nilson farm home in Lynn Township, Day County, S. D., near Pierpont. She was baptized at Skudesnes Lutheran Church and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She attended grade school in Pierpont and was an eighth grade graduate of Lynn District 151 country school. After two years at Pierpont High School and two years at Northern Normal in Aberdeen she received her teaching certificate and taught in rural schools in Day County. On June 6, 1928, she married Henry Oliver Lee at the Bergen-Skudesnes Lutheran parsonage. The couple made their home on a farm east of Pierpont and one son, Richard, was born to them. After Henry's death in 1973, she and Richard continued to live on the farm. In March 1999 Mildred became a resident of Strand-Kjorsvig Community Rest Home in Roslyn. Her son, Richard passed away in July 2000. Mildred was affectionately known as "Mid" to her family and friends. Her home was always a welcoming place. She was an inspiration to her family. She was a devoted member of Skudesnes Lutheran Church and was involved in many activities including Luther League, L.D.R., choir, Sunday School and Ladies' Aide. She held various offices including Sunday School Superintendent. She especially enjoyed quilting for World Relief. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Mildred wrote the Reporter and Farmer, East Pierpont News for nearly 30 years (1963-1993). Survivors include two sisters, Irene Holden of Milaca, Minn. and Eunice Draeger of Milwaukee, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, three brothers, Harvey, Jerome and Raymond and one sister, Fern Treffry.
